Mateu Lahoz gives his verdict on Dani Carvajal’s push on Ronald Araujo in El Clasico

Sunday’s Clasico was full of controversy as usual but one incident in particular caught the eye from a Barcelona perspective.

Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal pushed Ronald Araujo late on in the game in the penalty area in a collision that went unpunished by referee César Soto Grado.

Even former ref Mateu Lahoz was surprised it wasn’t given as a spot-kick. He told Tiempo de Juego that Carvajal “takes a risk because he pushes him from behind.”

He goes on to say: “If it hadn’t been this match, the penalty would have been called.”

Obviously a spot kick at that point would have given Barcelona the chance to grab a late equaliser from the penalty spot but it simply wasn’t to be

It wasn’t the only big decision in the game. Referee César Soto Grado also overturned a penalty given in favor of Real Madrid early on but then did award the hosts a spot-kick for a handball by Eric Garcia.

FC Barcelona News: 27 October 2025; Barça Atlètic earn valuable draw at home, Barça lose El Clasico against Real Madrid

Real Madrid 2-1 FC Barcelona: Narrow defeat at the Bernabéu – FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona have lost the first Clásico of the season, 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu, in a game where, if we are perfectly honest, Real Madrid were the better team on the day. But the Catalans managed to prevent the all-whites from extending their lead beyond a single goal and stayed within touching distance of taking home a very valuable point.

Marcus Sorg: ‘We made more mistakes than usual’ – FC Barcelona
After Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid, Marcus Sorg admitted that the team had “made more mistakes than usual.” This condemned the Culers, who were unable to show their best version or take any points from their visit to the Santiago Bernabéu.

Barça Atlètic 2-2 Poblense: Show of commitment – FC Barcelona
A 2-2 draw for Barça Atlètic against Poblense at the Johan Cruyff stadium after Belletti’s side were up against it after Joan Anaya was sent off in the 9th minute. All the same, the blaugranes fought to the end and came away with a point as Ureña grabbed a brace against one of the most in-form teams in the division.

De Jong on Madrid players’ reaction to Lamine: “It was exaggerated” – Mundo Deportivo
The midfielder spoke to the media after Barça’s 2-1 defeat to Madrid and was critical of the Real Madrid players’ attitude towards Barça’s number 10, who was in the spotlight for his statements before the match.

The Uruguayan center-back also defended Barça’s number 10 after the insults from Real Madrid players after the match at the Santiago Bernabéu.

What Dani Carvajal and Vini Jr said to Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal before El Clasico brawl

Sunday’s Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu ended up in chaos and with both sets of players engaged in an angry brawl.

It all appeared to start when Dani Carvajal approached Lamine Yamal after the final whistle. “You speak too much. Speak now,” the Real Madrid captain said to the 18-year-old.

Carvajal was referring to Yamal’s pre-match banter about Real Madrid that seems to have got the veteran all riled up.

Vinicius Jr then predictably joined in before being escorted off the pitch. It’s not clear what Real Madrid’s angry Brazilian said but he was heard telling Yamal during the match “you only pass backwards.”

Real Madrid had been forced to watch Vini Jr having another meltdown during the match. He reacted angrily to being substituted by Xabi Alonso and stormed down the tunnel before appearing back on the touchline later.

In the end it was left to Frenkie de Jong to restore some calmness and common sense.

He was asked about the situation after the game and said: “If Carvajal wanted to speak to Lamine, he could do so in private. If he thinks he shouldn’t do things like, he could call him. They’re teammates, they know each other. Why do you have to make a scene on the pitch?”

WATCH: Clasico ends in chaos as Real Madrid players confront Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal

Sunday’s Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid ended in absolute chaos as both sets of players ended up in a mass brawl after the full time whistle.

A typically feisty affair saw Madrid win 2-1, while Pedri was sent off late on which seemed to raise tensions further.

Vini Jr had also thrown an epic tantrum after being replaced in the second half. He made his feelings pretty clear and stormed off down the tunnel, before subsequently reappearing again.

Dani Carvajal and Thibaut Courtois then appeared to approach Lamine Yamal after the final whistle which seemed to spark a brawl between both teams.

Here’s another view of what happened:

Yamal had been full of talk ahead of the game. He said “they steal, they complain…” before the game and then took aim at Los Blancos in another social media post on the eve of the game.

His words led to speculation that Carvajal would have a word with Yamal after the game as Madrid had been upset by his “disrespectful comments.”

Carvajal certainly seemed to have something to say to Yamal as tensions boiled over yet again in El Clasico.

Real Madrid vs Barcelona, La Liga: Fermín López goal not enough as Barça lose El Clasico

Barcelona will finish the weekend in second place in the La Liga table and five points off the top thanks to a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first El Clasico of the season. Barça were utterly dominated in the first half and could have easily conceded four or five goals in the opening period, but managed to avoid disaster and gave themselves a chance in the second half. Unfortunately the comeback never came, and the Catalans deservedly lost to their eternal rivals in a game they never had a real chance to win.

Reactions & Observations

  • That first half was an absolute nightmare. Barça didn’t have a chance, and found a goal out of nowhere to stay in a game they should have been out of very early. Wojciech Szczesny kept them in it, but Madrid absolutely battered them for the entire 45 minutes plus added time. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Barça get dominated that badly.
  • Apart from Rashford and Fermín, Barça’s attack was anemic, unimaginative, and physically dominated by the Madrid defense. Barça were so concerned with keeping the ball and trying to have some control that they forgot about actually doing something with it, and Lamine Yamal was especially poor in his duel with Álvaro Carreras.
  • Barça conceded the predictable goal with Kylian Mbappé getting in behind their high line which everyone expected to happen, and Pau Cubarsí’s lack of awareness to track that run was quite poor.
  • Pedri needs to shoot more. There were several moments in which he got to promising positions but was instantly looking to pass. In these games scoring chances don’t come around that often, and even someone not inclined to score like Pedri has to try and take them. His (deserved) red card at the death was the unfortunate ending to a pretty disappointing afternoon for Barça’s best player.
  • Wojciech Szczesny silenced a lot of critics with his performance. Despite conceding two goals he made quite a few big saves, and his penalty stop against Mbappé was the only reason Barça ever had a chance in the second half.
  • Marcus Sorg (and Hansi Flick)’s substitutions came way too late. No subs at halftime was already strange enough given how bad we looked in the first half, but waiting a half-hour to make two safe changes and only bringing on Roony Bardghji with 10 minutes to go was very disappointing.
  • Barça deserve some credit for not allowing things to get ugly in the second half, but they offered so little going forward that a comeback never felt realistic, and a 2-1 loss doesn’t do justice to how poorly they looked for most of the game.

All set! The preparations for El Clásico are complete. The Barça squad trained on Saturday morning at the Ciutat Esportiva just hours before travelling to Madrid, where the much-anticipated clash with Real Madrid is happening on Sunday at 4.15pm CET.

Marcus Sorg expecting a tough game – FC Barcelona
Marcus Sorg was the man chosen to speak to the media ahead of this Sunday’s Clásico (4.15pm CET), in which Barça will visit the Santiago Bernabéu aiming to repeat last year’s superb performance. With Hansi Flick suspended and unable to take his seat on the bench, Sorg will take charge of the team from the touchline.

10 things ahead of the Clásico – FC Barcelona
AR eal Madrid v Barça match makes the world sit up and take notice. There’s the big rivalry, the top players, and there is always so much interest, especially at then moment with the league positions being so tight. There are also different stats and interesting facts around the match and we take a look a 10 of them ahead of the big game.

Sorg: “Criticism of Lamine? It will be a motivation” – Mundo Deportivo
Lamine Yamal will be one of the main attractions of El Clásico and many eyes will be focused on him, especially after his comments during a Kings League program that Real Madrid “steals and complains.” Those remarks have heated up the atmosphere before the game and Barça’s number 10 has been the subject of much criticism, but Marcus Sorg made it clear in a press conference that he isn’t worried about the situation.

Raphinha suffers relapse and will be out for longer – Mundo Deportivo
Raphinha will be out for El Clásico against Real Madrid, but he’s also expected to miss several more matches. The Brazilian winger is still nursing discomfort in his right hamstring and his return to the pitch will have to wait a few more weeks, with no date set.

‘He the most important part of the team’ – Marcus Sorg admits Hansi Flick’s El Clasico ban is a ‘disadvantage for Barcelona’

Barcelona assistant coach Marcus Sorg will be on the sidelines for the Blaugrana’s trip to the capital to face Real Madrid in El Clasico, and he admitted that he’d much rather have his boss in his place on Sunday.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Sorg was asked about the impact of Flick’s absence after his one-match ban due to a red card received last week against Girona was upheld despite several appeals by the club, and the assistant highlighted Hansi’s importance to the team but also projected a ton of confidence that the team can still play at their best without the coach on the sideline.

“He’s the most important part of the team and so it’s a disadvantage of course. But it’s the same with the players, we have to deal with it. Everybody knows what he expects from us and I think we will do it.

“We have to do things right, apply pressure with and without the ball, push up the pitch if necessary… but we won’t change our way of doing things; it wouldn’t help us.

“In these games, everything is 50-50. Whoever performs best on the field will win.”

Barça will be without Flick, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Dani Olmo, Gavi and Joan Garcia at the Bernabéu against an in-form Madrid team hungry for revenge after four decisive losses in El Clasico last season, so it’s safe to say the Catalans have quite the mountain to climb this Sunday.

Barcelona share update on Jules Kounde, Raphinha & Ferran Torres ahead of El Clasico

Barcelona play the biggest game of their season so far when they face Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday afternoon, and there will be quite a few key pieces missing.

One of them is Hansi Flick, who is banned for the red card he received against Girona last week, so his assistant Marcus Sorg will be on the sideline on Sunday and took charge of Saturday’s press conference as well, where he was asked about the status of three players.

The first is Jules Kounde, who missed a couple of training sessions this week due to a knock and is doubtful for the game; the second is Raphinha, who has suffered a relapse of his hamstring injury and will likely miss a few more weeks; the third is Ferran Torres, who hasn’t played in the last two games due to a hamstring issue and whose status as a starter is still in doubt.

Sorg confirmed that Raphinha is indeed missing, but left the door open for both Kounde and Ferran to start after they trained normally on Friday.

“Jules trained this morning, and we’ll have to wait and see how he reacts after training. We haven’t finalized tomorrow’s starting lineup.

“Any team would like to have Raphinha, but the situation is what it is. He’s injured. We’ll see if Ferran starts; we’ll decide tomorrow.”

Kounde’s presence is crucial given the threat of Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe down the left side of Madrid’s attack, and Ferran has been in excellent form all season and could play a big part if he’s able to start. Raphinha’s absence is a real shame given everything he does for the team with and without the ball and from a leadership standpoint, and to be without him for probably another month is a real blow.

Why Robert Lewandowski missed out in vote for Barcelona’s captains

Robert Lewandowski is one of the senior figures in the dressing room at Barcelona but isn’t part of the team’s leadership group.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Ronald Araujo, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Raphinha are the captains for the 2025-26 season, with Lewandowski overlooked once again.

Barcelona’s players traditionally vote for the captains and journalist Toni Juanmarti has a theory as to why Lewandowski is not part of the group.

“When he joined the club, he brought not only mentality but also an ethos of hard physical work,” he told Fakt.

“Robert played the bad cop and put pressure on his teammates during training. For the young players, of whom there were many in the locker room, he proved to be a very strict teacher. And they probably didn’t vote for him.”

Lewandowski may not wear an armband but hs leads by example. He enjoyed his best scoring season at Barcelona last year at the grand old age of 36 and will be hoping to get back in the goals when he returns from injury.

Barcelona hit by Raphinha blow ahead of El Clasico

Barcelona and Hansi Flick have been hit with more bad injury news ahead of El Clasico on Sunday at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Raphinha had returned to training and been expected to be passed fit in time for the game but has reportedly suffered some kind of setback.

According to multiple reports, Raphinha did not train on Friday and it seems unlikely now that he will be able to play against Real Madrid.

The Brazilian has missed Barcelona’s last five games due to injury and appears set for more time on the sidelines in what is a really frustrating development.

Raphinha’s absence means that the onus will be on Lamine Yamal, Marcus Rashford, Ferran Torres and Roony Bardghji to find the goals in the Spanish capital.

As for Raphinha, he is set to undergo more tests and we may get an update on his progress tomorrow when Barcelona hold a pre-match press conference ahead of the match.

Barcelona handed Robert Lewandowski fitness boost

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski appears to be ahead of schedule in his recovery from injury and could be back earlier than expected for Hansi Flick’s side.

Lewandowski has been sidelined since the international break with a thigh injury and was initially expected to miss at least a month of action.

However, a new report has suggested he’s doing extremely well and may be back in contention for selection quite soon.

Reporter Adrià Albets posted on X: “Lewandowski is recovering very well from his injury, yesterday the Barça doctors were impressed seeing how quickly he has recovered. They even considered the option that he travel to Madrid, but yesterday it seemed risky, he hasn’t done any training yet.”

Barcelona’s injury problems are starting to slowly ease. Fermin Lopez and Lamine Yamal are already back, while it’s hoped Raphinha can be passed fit in time for Sunday’s Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu.

‘I hope to be here for a long time’ – Marcus Rashford talks Barcelona future and previews El Clasisco

Marcus Rashford has admitted he’s hoping to stay at Barcelona for a long time after making a strong start to his time in Catalunya.

The forward is only on a season-long loan from Manchester United, but there is an option for him to move permanently at the end of the season.

Rashford’s current form means that could be a real option if he can maintain his current performances, and he says he’s hoping that can happen.

“I’m really enjoying my time in Spain. A very big change. I’m learning every day, I’m enjoying it a lot. I hope to be here for a long time. I get along very well with Roony, as well as Jules and Frenkie. It’s a team in which we all mix. We are united,” he said in a Q&A on Barca’s YouTube channel.

“The team is fantastic, I just have to be in the right position. I will continue to try to do this. We have to continue like this to be our best version. We have a lot more to do this season.”

Up next for Barcelona is a trip to the Bernabeu to face Real Madrid. It’s Rashford’s first Clasico and he can’t wait to take on Los Blancos.

“I’m really looking forward to the Clasico. I want to do my best to win the game. It’s going to be special. El Clásico is the most watched match in the world,” he added.

“Remembering a moment is difficult, because if you are a football fan, you have seen all the Clásicos. It is important to learn from the best players and see how they play in moments of pressure. I remember Messi’s hat-trick in his early days; they are great games to watch.

“You don’t have to be a fan of either to enjoy the match. It’s special. We are ready and we are already looking at the classic. It’s my first, it’s the biggest game in the world of football.”

Rashford heads into the game fresh from bagging a brace and winning a penalty last time out against Olympiacos, and he’ll hoping to continue his hot streak in Sunday afternoon.

‘Goals!’ – Gary Lineker gives his score prediction for Real Madrid vs Barcelona

Former Barcelona striker Gary Lineker is expecting plenty of goals on Sunday when the Catalan giants face off against Real Madrid in El Clasico.

The famous fixture rarely fails to disappoint on the goals front and Lineker is expecting more of the same at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“My prediction is: goals, as I can’t see Barcelona changing how they play,” Lineker told The Athletic.

“Barca play a really high-risk, high-reward game, with their high line. They don’t even tend to drop when they don’t have pressure on the ball.

“They back themselves to score more than the opposition. And Real Madrid have that danger on the counter-attack with the pace of Vinicius and Mbappe. So I can’t envisage it being a low-scoring affair.

“If Lamine Yamal is fit, Barcelona have a real chance. I’ll go: 4-3 to Barca.”

Barcelona are currently on an impressive goalscoring streak and have found the back of the net in each of their last 48 consecutive matches in all competitions.

Now it’s over to you! Let us know your predictions for Sunday’s big match in the comments below!

Barcelona hit by Frenkie de Jong fitness scare ahead of El Clasico

Barcelona’s El Clasico preparations have been disrupted by news that Frenkie de Jong missed training on Thursday as he was feeling unwell.

According to Diario Sport, the Dutchman arrived at the Ciutat Esportiva but went home early as he was in no condition to train.

The news will be a concern to manager Hansi Flick just days away from the trip to the Santiago Bernabeu, particularly as he’s already without Joan Garcia, Robert Lewandowski, Gavi and Dani Olmo for the game.

It’s not clear if De Jong will recover in time but he’s not the only player to be under the weather at Barcelona right now.

Andreas Christensen missed training on Monday due to illness and was then left out of the squad for the win over Olympiacos.

According to AS, the Denmark international is still yet to return to full training with Barcelona after suffering from gastroenteritis this week.

FC Barcelona News: 23 October 2025; Preparations begin for El Clásico, Raphinha returns to training

Pau Cubarsí may be only 18, but he’s already something of a Clásico veteran – and a winning one at that. Barça came out on top in all four meetings with Real Madrid last season, five if you count the preseason clash. And on Sunday, there’s another one on the horizon.

Rashford doubling up in Europe – FC Barcelona

Raphinha returns to training ahead of El Clasico for Barcelona

Barcelona have been handed a huge fitness boost as Raphinha has returned to training ahead of Sunday’s Clasico clash at the Bernabeu.

Raphinha has been out of action since the win over Real Oviedo in September, but the plan has always been to try and ensure he’s ready for the game against Real Madrid.

Barcelona confirmed on Wednesday that he was back out on the grass with his team-mates on Wednesday, along with Ferran Torres, although Andreas Christensen was missing once again through illness.

Hansi Flick is still without some key players for the Clasico, such as Gavi, Joan Garcia, Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski – but has seen Fermin Lopez and Lamine Yamal return to fitness.

The hope will be that Raphinha is given the green light before the game and can play some part in the fixture against Xabi Alonso’s side.

Raphinha will certainly be an option up front, although Fermin Lopez and Marcus Rashford are pushing for starts after shining in the 6-1 win over Olympiacos.

Monaco boss reacts to Ansu Fati’s angry reaction after Barcelona loanee is substituted

Ansu Fati has been enjoying life at Monaco after joining the club from Barcelona on a season-long loan.

The forward has scored six goals in six games for the Ligue 1 club but was left frustrated last time out against Angers.

Fati couldn’t find the back of the net and also wasn’t too happy about being subbed off by new manager Sébastien Pocognoli.

The Barca star refused a handshake with his coach, but Pocognoli has sought to play down the incident.

“We spoke after the match. He reacted in a good way. That is player is disappointed when coming off is normal, but there is always thinking behind it, be it medical or tactical,” he said.

“Beyond the reaction (from Fati), which was clumsy, this kind of episode teaches me a lot about what we need to work on with some players and with Ansu, there is a need [to work on] emotional control.

I am not a manager who closes himself off from one reaction, so long as the player has the right attitude the next day. So there is no affair beyond what we have seen. It was unfortunate, but no more than that.”

Fati will be hoping for more minutes later today when Monaco take on Tottenham in the Champions League.

Hansi Flick banned for El Clasico as Barcelona’s appeal against red card fails

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick will be banned from the touchline for Sunday’s Clasico against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu after the club’s appeal against his red card failed.

Flick was sent off against Girona late on in the game but has insisted his actions were not directed at referee Gil Manzano.

Both Deco and Joan Laporta have said they feel Flick was harshly treated, while the club had appealed against the decision.

However, that appeal has failed and Flick will now serve a one-match ban, according to Jijantes.

The Barcelona boss has since conceded he wants to change his behavior for the sake of his family.

He told reporters: “I don’t like seeing myself in this state on television, and I don’t want my grandchildren to see their grandfather like that. So I probably have to change my behaviour.”

Flick will be back on the touchline after El Clasico when Barca face Elche at Montjuic.

Hansi Flick explains why he’s benched Frenkie de Jong for Barcelona against Olympiacos

Hansi Flick has raised a few eyebrows after naming his Barcelona starting XI to face Olympiacos in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The German coach is without several key players due to injury, including Gavi, Robert Lewandowski, Dani Olmo, Joan Garcia and Raphinha, but has also decided to rest Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutchman has been named on the bench for the match, with Pedri and Marc Casado set to feature in midfield against the Greek side.

Flick explained his decision ahead of kick-off:

“There are no easy matches in the Champions League. You have to play at your highest level,” he said. “Frenkie normally plays with a lot of intensity, like against Girona, and we have to take care of him. That’s why he’s on the bench.”

Flick also reiterated his call for his players to improve their positioning and pressing for the match.

“We need to improve certain aspects of positioning, pressure…sometimes it’s just a matter of three or four meters,” he added. “We’re prepared to play against a team that comes to put pressure on us.”

FC Barcelona announce squad for Champions League match against Olympiacos

The next Barcelona match is upon us! The Blaugrana welcome Greek champions Olympiacos to Montjuïc for an important Champions League game, and Hansi Flick has called up the following 23 players for Tuesday’s clash:

Goalkeepers: 25. Wojciech Szczesny, 31. Diego Kochen, 33. Eder Aller

Defenders: 3. Alejandro Balde, 4. Ronald Araujo, 5. Pau Cubarsí, 18. Gerard Martín, 23. Jules Kounde, 24. Eric Garcia, 26. Jofre Torrents, 42. Xavi Espart

Midfielders: 8. Pedri, 16. Fermín López, 17. Marc Casadó, 21. Frenkie de Jong, 22. Marc Bernal, 27. Dro Fernández

Forwards: 7. Ferran Torres, 10. Lamine Yamal, 14. Marcus Rashford, 28. Roony Bardghji, 29. Toni Fernández, 41. Juan Hernández

The surprising news for this one is the return of Ferran Torres, who is fit enough to make the squad despite expectation he would miss out with a hamstring issue. There is some bad news, however, as Andreas Christensen is ruled out with a gastrointestinal problem and cannot make the squad. Along with the Dane, Raphinha (hamstring), Dani Olmo (calf), Robert Lewandowski (hamstring), Joan Garcia (knee), Marc-André ter Stegen (back) and Gavi (knee) are all ruled out due to injury.

Predicted starting XI (4-3-3):

Szczesny; Kounde, Araujo, Cubarsí, Martín; De Jong, Casadó, Pedri; Yamal, Fermín, Rashford

The match kicks off at 6.45pm CET (Barcelona), 5.45pm BST/WAT (UK & Nigeria), 12.45pm ET, 9.45am PT (USA), 10.15pm IST (India), and you can join us to follow and comment all the action.
